I love Kohlrabi, a much underestimated vegetable, ideal for growing at the lean veg times of the year. Use for autumn, winter and early spring salads when the weather is cold. Slice them finely with a mandolin, marinade in good quality olive oil and lemon juice, or, as a less healthy option, serve them with lashings of hollandaise. Their unusual, slightly cauliflower-like flavour is perfect in contrast to the richness of the sauce. Difficult to buy, but easy to grow.
