Just make sure if you do start drilling holes in your garden you check where the utility services run through and how deep they are! You don’t want to accidentally drill through gas, electrics or water!.

Hi Rachel, that’s lovely! How wide are your paths, and how do you do them? For instance, are they brick paths, and if so, what do you put under them? I’m asking as it is indeed so practical to have enough paths, and I’d like to know how you do them.

Hi Elizabeth,
As this is for an allotment I’ve made the paths about 40cm wide and I’ve reused last year’s weed suppressant membrane to set them out. If you wished to use brick I would put sharp sand underneath and if you wanted permanent paths I would add some lime mortar to the mix instead of cement this close to vegetables. But bear in mind lime mortar takes a lot longer to harden than cement.
