Thanks for the photos of the allotment. I’ve been wondering about how I was going to manage all the different buckets and barrels of stuff for JADAM. And, what a wonderful idea to line up Nate’s videos into a Garden Plan! Thank you for doing that. It streamlines my thinking and doesn’t seem so overwhelming.

I did not believe some of what you said about garlic and had to look it up for myself. Amazing how much there is once you start looking at it. Fingers crossed for us both to have an awesome, edible, medicinal, beautiful garden this year!

Thanks, Arlynn, glad you enjoyed the update. Yes, I was feeling very overwhelmed until I did the year planner – makes life much easier!

I still haven’t been able to find anything about what cooking does to the compound in the garlic – I’m hoping it neutralises it!!

Hi Rachel – fascinating video especially about the garlic – do let us know how your March experiment goes. We love garlic but dont have it regularly, however, I have noticed that if we have garlic and onion then we both dont sleep as well as if we dont have it. Of course that might just be other ingredients! Certainly needs more exploration. Look forward to hearing how your experiment goes and agree with you about the mushrooms and garlic 🙂

        Hi Janine,

Oooh that’s interesting that you and your husband had already noticed about the garlic and onion affecting sleep! I will do an update at the end of my experiment – fingers crossed I don’t notice a difference and can go back to eating yummy garlic mushrooms! 🙂

Thank you for this interesting blog. I’d like to request that you have an episode on how to add a winter garden to a small garden design which did not plan for the winter, since the ‘designer’ simply assumed that winter was a time when the garden goes to bed and does nothing. This is clearly not true, with such delightful winter gardens being showcased by the RHS and in open gardens in different parts of the UK, some of them up in the cold North. How do I incorporate a winter garden into a designed and built garden (in terms of beds and hardscape) which has existing shrubs and trees in it ?

        Hi Elizabeth,

Thanks for the topic suggestion. I will add it to my writing list. TBH though I don’t tend to do a winter garden as such. My method is to always have the garden look good no matter what the time of year. That is predominantly done with the design layout and secondly I incorporate up to a third of evergreen plants as well as plants that have a winter form like tall grasses. That way there is always something structural to look at and then when the flowers come back they are the added bonus rather than essential ingredients.
